When’s the best time to refresh your essentials? At the start of a new year, of course. This doesn’t mean that you’re dumping your staples, though. You just need to upgrade them to give your look a revamp!

Ahead, we’re highlighting five items you love that should be upgraded for 2016. You can also click through ClozetteSHOPPE’s curated New Year’s Sale to shop your new go-to’s and start the next 12 months off right.

Sheer Sweatshirt

Ditch printed and statement sweats, and opt for a solid, sheer sweatshirt that you can layer over your cute lace tank, or bright bra top. Pair it with your workout pants or weekend shorts, for a new take on the athleisure trend. Our pick: Nasty Gal Sheer Sweatshirt

Dark Bag

Clothing gets brighter, but accessories are toning down. For a foolproof everyday bag, buy one in chocolate brown or black. Our pick: Ruby Rocks Leather Backpack

Trendy Sunnies

What better way to get a quick style upgrade than by switching up your specs? Make a statement and rock the futuristic cat-eye shape. The silhouette is just so fun, and won’t overwhelm a pretty face. Our pick: La Rove KATTY Sunglasses

Ball Drop Earrings

Rather than reaching for your chandelier earrings right now, opt for a pair that’s more streamlined like the ball drop style. It’ll punch up anything you’re wearing, even the most basic white tee. Our pick: Dylan Gray Pave Ball Drop Earrings

Lip Lacquer

Because our favourite makeup products have an expiration date, now’s a good time to go through your stash (you may link a previous story about makeup expiration dates) and make any necessary swaps. We suggest you go for a lip lacquer in lieu of your traditional lipstick. Our pick: Rimmel London Apocalips Lip Lacquer

For the first time ever, Pantone could not make up their mind for the colour of the year and introduced Rose Quartz (Powder Pink) and Serenity (Pale Sky Blue) for 2016. With such a soothing palette of pinks and blues, our fashion forward Clozette Community have already started embracing these colours in their OOTDs.

So we took a peek at the latest photos shared in our Fashion Community and have spotted these 5 OOTDs that show you how easy it is to add a pop of pastel to your 2016 OOTDs—perfect for any occasion.

Due to the immense popularity of 1970’s fashion again, A-line dresses and skirts are becoming quite famous once more. Being sported left and right, in different cloths, textures, and finishes, every one is loving this silhouette. And why shouldn’t it be loved? It’s flattering, classy, and gives just the right amount of ‘high-fashion’ without being too over-the-top!

While trends do come and go, we have a feeling that this specific one will be staying for quite some time. So if you want to rock some A-line pieces too, check out this week’s top OOTDs for a little bit of chic A-line inspiration!

This rose-printed A-line dress from Clozette Ambassador MonicaTrina surely (but innocently) commands attention! The white polka dots on the black base, topped off with clusters of rose prints, are the look’s clothing and accessories in one! So to avoid taking attention off the dress, she sported a pair of nude sandals and a simple watch for an elegant finish!

For this look, Clozette Ambassador Lexiepuzon beautifully combined two trends to make a classic look. Her mustard yellow off-the-shoulder top perfectly meshed with her preppy A-line skirt for a fresh, night time-appropriate ensemble!

If you want to rock a casual A-line silhouette, then take inspiration from Clozetter missCHI’s denim and high-collar combination! The maroon shade of her top, paired with a denim button down skirt gives a good throwback to the 1970’s, while her fedora adds a modern touch to the whole outfit.

Mini skirts are just the best, no? They’re fun, versatile, and ever since debuting in the 1960’s, they’ve never gone out of style! Star Clozetter rhygnb’s A-line ensemble adds a touch of a hippie vibe with the off-the-shoulder top’s paisley print and fringed purse, while her black skirt and choker tie everything together for a high fashion mixture of textures and decades.

Elegant, easy to put together, and appropriate for the day and the night, these are the markings of a perfect outfit. And Clozette Ambassador cforcassan achieves that “perfect” look by matching a maroon halter top with a caramel-coloured A-line skirt! While the center of the outfit is gorgeous, the accessories ‘make’ the ensemble by giving pops of gold and nude, two timeless shades that look great on everybody!
