As mentioned by skin expert, Dr. Melvin Ee, in the skin tip video below, there are 3 main skin types: oily skin, dry skin, and combination skin. These skin types are mainly defined by a mix of genetics, your environment, and your skincare regimen.
Since each skin type is unique and comes with its own set of skincare requirements, here are a few quick tips to help you put together a skincare regimen tailored for your skin type:
The key to caring for dry skin: moisture. Dry Skin is characterized by a tight feeling on your skin coupled with dry patches on certain area of your face. When not cared for properly, this skin type is more predisposed to developing wrinkles. As such, a good moisturising regimen is key to caring for your skin. Go for soap-free cleansers and moisturisers that will plump and hydrate your skin.
The great thing about having Oily Skin is that your skin won't wrinkle so easily. The downside: clogged pores. So go for products that will deeply cleanse your pores from dirt and accumulated sebum while still ensuring that the skin is not stripped of its natural oils. Choose a deep cleansing facial wash and follow it up with a light gel moisturiser. Gel moisturisers absorb into the skin quicker without leaving an oily film on top.
Combination Skin is characterized by an oily T-zone with dry patches mostly concentrated around the cheek area. Caring for such skin type requires maintaining a balance throughout your face. Opt for a mild facial wash and a gel moisturiser, and then layer on a creamier moisturiser to the areas of your face prone to dryness.
