There are a lot of benefits to getting eyelash extensions. Not having to worry about putting on mascara and having it run during hot days, looking wide awake even with just concealer and lip tint, and having enviably long full lashes that last for weeks. The downside to getting extensions is having them fall off, lash by lash, as the days go by. But there are ways to make sure you keep them on for as long as your next salon visit. Here are tried and true ways to make your eyelash extensions last longer, leaving you looking brighter and fresher than ever.
Don’t Get Them Wet
Avoid getting any liquids in your general eye area for a minimum of 48 hours after application. The lash glue is still drying and any liquid or steam will lead to them falling off faster.
Go Lighter On the Lash
The heavier the lash, the faster they’ll fall. While we know how lovely it would be to have full and luscious lashes, gravity just won’t be your best friend. Ask the specialist for individual lashes around the .07 mm and .05 mm range, which will stay on longer than heavier lashes.
Ditch the Cream
If you use heavy creams, from moisturisers to eye creams, it’s better to avoid your eye area while applying them. The oils in such products cause the glue in your lashes to break up, leading to premature fall out. Generally speaking, if you have lash extensions, it’s better to avoid oil-based products.
Sleep On Your Back
Any rubbing or friction to your eye area can cause your extensions to fall, especially as you sleep. Lying on your back allows your lashes to stay in place longer.
Avoid Using Waterproof Makeup
Waterproof products are generally harder to remove, especially waterproof mascara. Even with lash extensions, the added dramatic effect can sometimes be hard to resist. However, this leads to tugging or using oil-based removers that affect the longevity of your lash extensions. So it’s best to use non-waterproof makeup or opt for gentler non-oil-based makeup removers as much as possible.
