FAVE 5: Midi Skirt Pairings | Clozette

Not too long ago, miniskirts were all the rage. Think about Paris Hilton's pink pleated skirt or Beyoncé's bedazzled denim mini. Then in a sudden turn of events, tiered peasant skirts with maxi hemlines became very trendy in the latter part of the '00s. As we move on to the '10s, another piece took the spotlight — the midi. The most popular ones are tea length skirts and those with asymmetrical styles. You'll often spot fashionistas pairing them with button-down shirts and spaghetti-strapped tops. But if you're looking for fresh ideas on what to pair with midis, here are some ensembles that you can cop from the #Clozette Community.

It's undeniable that J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World has made a huge cultural impact. From strong themes of love, sacrifice and battling tyranny, to various characters that are multi-dimensional, inspiring and compelling to read and watch on-screen, her work has truly shaped an entire generation. And now, it's not just the Harry Potter series that fans can refer to as we have also been introduced to a more mature take on the material in the form of the Fantastic Beasts series.

While Harry Potter leans more on the academic journey of the characters, Fantastic Beasts explores characters who are striving to make it in their chosen career paths and go through more adult situations — making it relatable to fans who have grown and matured alongside the series. There's the lead character Newt Scamander who is a quirky Magizoologist (someone who studies magical creatures), the Muggle Jacob who (spoiler alert!) achieved his dream of opening a bakery at the end of the first FBAWTFT movie, and of course, the Goldstein sisters Porpentina (Tina) and Queenie, skilled witches who joined Scamander's crew later into the film.

Speaking of the Goldstein sisters, one of the most admirable things about Rowling's writing is her ability to create strong female characters who are not limited by so-called feminine stereotypes. We have Queenie who is more flirty, free-spirited and kind, contrasted by Tina, who is more level-headed, composed, practical and grounded.

Given this, many would probably focus on Queenie's flowy and more feminine style when looking for fashion inspiration. But we feel like our girl Tina should definitely not be left out!

So whether you're looking for a Tina-inspired working girl outfit or simply here to join us in picturing the elder Goldstein sister as a 2018 career woman, we've got the modern spin to her androgynous and 'girl boss' '20s style down below.

The daily grind

Stylish Corporate Outfit

MAX MARA Marlo double-breasted wool-blend blazer, USD608 (theoutnet.com); JW ANDERSON Disc leather and suede shoulder bag, USD2,176 (net-a-porter.com); CURRENT/ELLIOTT The Des tie-back striped cotton-poplin shirt, USD104 (theoutnet.com); ROCHAS Belted cotton-blend wide-leg pants, USD381 (theoutnet.com); GUCCI Marmont fringed logo-embellished suede loafers, USD705 (net-a-porter.com)

Tina already has her staples on-point with her white button down, tapered trousers and brogues ensemble, so we decided to tweak it up just a bit for this modernised curation. Adding in some colours and patterns to her look but still retaining her preference for a more muted colour palette, we can totally see Tina rocking a striped poplin button-down and high-waist trousers for a typical day in the office. Swapping out her suitcase with a basic black handbag and her brogues for suede loafers, we figured that even her choice of accessories during this era would channel her practical personality.

Special meetings

Stylish Corporate Outfit

RACHEL GILBERT Cecilie fluted crepe midi skirt, USD239 (theoutnet.com); RAOUL Tie-front embroidered gingham cotton-poplin shirt, USD140 (theoutnet.com); ELIZABETH AND JAMES SOLD OUT Gold-plated topaz earrings, USD53 (theoutnet.com); ANYA HINDMARCH Multi Stripes patent-leather and vinyl tote, USD1,001 (net-a-porter.com); STUART WEITZMAN Zsazsa suede platform pumps, USD218 (theoutnet.com)

Tina works as an Auror for MACUSA (the American version of Harry Potter's Ministry of Magic) so uncomplicated and more versatile outfits fit her style more. But for occasions when she has to meet with the higher-ups to discuss the goings-on related to the most high profile wizard baddies, we definitely believe she'll go for a more crisp and clean look. She would definitely be the type to go for classic pieces like a fluted skirt and basic heels to channel a more elegant and commanding presence, which we are totally here for. The touch of gold earrings is chosen for practicality (and maybe with a bit of insistence from Queenie), given that they are easy-to-wear and not overwhelming but would still add a bit of shine and flare to the whole look.

Coffee run

Stylish Casual Outfit

FOREVER 21 Velvet Bucket Hat, USD7.99 (forever21.com); HATCH The Waffle merino wool turtleneck sweater, USD525 (net-a-porter.com); BRUNELLO CUCINELLI Bead-embellished wool, cashmere and silk-blend trousers, USD418 (theoutnet.com); BOYY Deon leather belt bag, USD727 (net-a-porter.com); JOSEPH Templer leather ankle boots, USD335 (theoutnet.com)

Hey, wizards and witches need their caffeine boost, too! So for Tina's coffee run look, we totally see her choosing something comfortable and easy to move in to make sure that when duty calls — even in the middle of grabbing a cuppa — she can easily switch from casual to ready-to-duel. The tapered trousers and the bucket hat are nods to her '20s look, while the belt bag trend is something that we can totally see her embracing because of its laidback vibe and functionality.

Office party

PHILIP TREACY Rosette and bow-embellished velvet headpiece, USD1,360 (net-a-porter.com); MARNI Textured-leather clutch, USD481 (theoutnet.com); ALEXANDER WANG Embellished cotton-blend lace mini dress, USD986 (theoutnet.com); GIANVITO ROSSI Foley D'Orsay suede platform Mary Jane pumps, USD412 (theoutnet.com)

The only time we've seen Tina go glam during the first movie was when they infiltrated a speakeasy. But even for that short while, we realised that this girl definitely knows how to work the flapper aesthetic. Given this, we decided to just embrace that vibe for her modernised office party outfit. The beaded and velvet mini-dress with a nice lace trimming topped with a rosette headpiece makes is a great recreation of that look. Tying it together are classic black pumps that will definitely level up the vintage aesthetic we've already seen her pull off. P.S. Don't you think this is just perfect for her chic rounded bob?

When it comes to Instagram snaps, posing with flowers is always a good idea. It may feel silly to strike a pose by the bushes but trust us, it's worth it. In order to pull it off perfectly, you need to prepare an outfit that complements the blooms. You can go for a floral maxi dress for an ethereal effect or any outfit that matches the colour of the petals. Save yourself from looking ridiculous and take a cue from our #Clozette Community on how to nail the art of posing amongst flowers.
