It’s just the first week of the month, yet a lot has already happened. So before you go off to enjoy the weekend, read up on all the hottest buzz in the world of fashion and beauty. From the opening of the Armani Beauty Box in Singapore to the unveiling of the Vice Cosmetics x BT21 Collection to Forever 21 formally announcing their bankruptcy — we’ve rounded up all the juicy stuff you need to know.

Armani Beauty Box in Singapore

Armani Beauty Box Singapore

The itinerant Armani Beauty Box has made its stop in Singapore. Get a chance to discover and know more about Armani Beauty’s offerings through a series of interactive activities in the pop-up such as virtual makeup application and makeup consultations. Inspired by cinema, there’s also a “screen test,” where guests can try their hand at acting. You may also get your hands on limited-edition and novelty Armani Beauty products, including the award-winning Lip Maestro in shade 400G. You may check it out at the Singapore Changi International Airport.

Vice Cosmetics x BT21 Collection is finally coming

That’s right — the much-awaited collab between Filipino beauty brand Vice Cosmetics and BT21 is finally launching in the Philippines. Though BT21 has partnered with a few cosmetic brands before, it’s the very first time they’re working with a Filipino brand, making this release doubly exciting for beauty junkies and ARMYs in the PH. Aside from releasing new shades of the Phenomenal Velvet Lipsticks, Water Gel Lip & Cheek Tints, the limited edition Vice Cosmetics x BT21 Collection will also include new highlighter duos and a 12-pan eyeshadow palette. Not only that, but they’re also releasing limited quantities of PR Kits with a cute freebie in select stores. Catch the beauty drop nationwide tomorrow, 5 October.

It's official: Forever 21 has filed for bankruptcy

A month after bankruptcy rumours about the brand surfaced, Forever 21 has made it official. Once a big name in the fast-fashion industry, the fashion retailer’s profits dwindled as a result of people preferring to shop online. With over 800 stores worldwide, Forever 21 has announced that they will close most of their stores in North America, Europe, and Asia to slim down operations and restructure. Still, all isn’t lost for us in the region. Luckily for us, the brand will continue operations in some countries like the Philippines and Singapore, so we can still visit their stores for style essentials.

Desigual presents F/W ’19 collection and unveils a new logo

Unveiling of Desigual's new logo and collection in partnership with Zalora, along with the launch of Vice Cosmetics x BT21 collection are just some of the hottest news this week

On a happier note, Desigual’s presence in Singapore grows stronger than ever. More than a decade after the opening of their first store in the Lion City, the Spanish fashion brand partnered with ZALORA, their official online partner to present their F/W ’19 collection. During the event, they also permanently reversed their logo to highlight their spirit of uniqueness. The word “desigual” means “different” in Spanish, and the brand paid tribute to their essence by presenting their collection through a dance performance. Talk about fresh and cool, right? Admit it: You have clothes in your closet that have been sitting there for ages. Whether they're ones you bought blindly because they were on sale or those you're waiting for the right opportunity to wear, the truth is, you won't really wear them. And that's not a sustainable practice. If you're looking to change your route and make more sustainable choices to lessen your carbon footprint, might we suggest these hacks?

Marie Kondo-ing your stuff

Sustainable Fashion Tips

Take time to evaluate your style. Are you the minimalist type? The one who loves colour? Or the combination of both. After you've identified your style, find what sparks joy and separate your clothing into piles: the ones you love, the ones not in your size but you’re comfortable to wear, and the ones you’ll never wear again. Keep, share and donate as necessary.

Repurpose when necessary

Sustainable Fashion Tips

You’ll be surprised that you can turn some of your clothes into more functional ensembles. DIY Projects and Pinterest can help your ideas come to life.

Buy with intention

Sustainable Fashion Tips

If buying new stuff is inevitable, what’s your biggest priority when buying clothes? Ask yourself, “Do I really need this?” Always shop with purpose. Do not roam aimlessly in a shop or you’ll end up buying things you don’t really need.

Invest wisely

Sustainable clothing does not always come with a heftier price tag. You can find pieces even in fast fashion brands. The most important thing is to remember the importance of quality over quantity. Go for high-quality fabrics and always consider clothing that can be used in multiple ways. Also, think about cost per wear.

Get thrifty

If you’re still conscious about spending on brand new clothes to add to your wardrobe, thrifting is a good option. Second-hand clothes do not need new materials to be produced. That means no water, electricity and chemicals needed when passing the clothes from one person to another, so basically you’re helping save the Earth. It’s more affordable, too!
