After a long tiring day at work or when we wake up in the morning, we look forward to having showers. Some people hate cold water in the morning, while others love it for a reason. Many people say it’s best to wash with hot water after work, but others disagree. But does it really matter?

Well, yes, it does. Apparently, the temperature of the water used for shower matters for one’s wellness but a debate doesn’t have to commence. Regardless of the temperature, both hot and cold shower work like magic and offer a lot of therapeutic benefits. Here’s how and why.

Why go for a cold shower?

A cold shower generally helps reinvigorate the skin without drying it out unlike when a hot shower is taken. Doctors also say that cold shower calms itchy skin. When washing your face, it’s nice to start with warm water to open the pores and then finish it with cold water, which tightens the pores after you clean out the dirt.

While the majority hates it in the morning, a cold shower boosts energy so it’s best taken before you do anything else after waking up. It increases alertness, heart rate, and oxygen intake so it prepares and motivates you to do your daily routine. Another thing is because our body reacts quickly when cold water hits us, blood circulates faster to keep our normal body temperature. Just finished a tough workout? Try a cold shower to help repair and restore your sore muscles.

The downside is, when we’re sick or feverish, our body feels cold at times and showering with cold water will not make us feel any better. Very low temperature tends to attack our weak immune system and we’ll surely end up having colds.

Like a cold shower, hot shower also has the power of resolve stiffness of the muscles. The tight feeling upon our shoulders, limbs, back, and arms relax when a hot shower is used. It’s even better if you own a shower with pressure so you can experience a bit of a massage.

Have some trouble sleeping? A hot shower can put you to sleep, since it works to relax the nerves with a warm feeling, especially after a chilly day.

Had a tough day at work? Pick hot water for your shower today. It reduces tension in our body and helps us overcome stress. Studies show that when a hot shower is taken, the brain releases more oxytocin, a hormone that acts as a chemical messenger and plays a vital role in one’s social and personal behaviour, including anxiety and trust.

On the flipside, because of the heat, our skin dries up after a long hot shower. This also goes for our hair. The higher the temperature of our shower, the more hair ends split and get damaged.

People who suffer from cardiovascular diseases or hypertension are not advised to take hot showers. The hot feeling from a high temperature triggers higher blood pressure.

So as you can see, there's no need to pick a side, but keep in mind how and why hot and cold showers work.

Aside from taking a shower, here are more ways to de-stress.

These hottest bites will surely give you excitement that lasts all week long. Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’ second wedding makes us swoon

After their surprise nuptials in Vegas last May, the power couple tied the knot once again in an elegant affair last weekend. Their celebration took place in two castles located in Sarrians, France: Château du Martinay for the ceremony and Château de Tourreau (which you can rent on AirBnb) for the reception. Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’ second wedding was reportedly much simpler. White flowers and candles adorned the aisle as the Game of Thrones actress walked down in a long lace dress with light makeup. Photos have yet to turn up, but the ceremony was quite emotional, with the couple tearing up as they said their vows.

The trailer for the new Charlie’s Angels’ is finally here

You hear that right — the classic ‘70s series, after getting remade into a film back in 2000, is getting yet another reboot this year. Directed by Elizabeth Banks, who appeared in Hunger Games and Pitch Perfect, this version promises that it’s quite going to be different this time around. This version — which stars Kirsten Stewart, Naomi Scott, Ella Balinska, and Noah Centineo — is getting quite mixed reactions online. Whether it would be as fun as it looks in the trailer, we’ll just have to see when it comes out in theatres this November.
