November is finally here and we've picked our Featured Fashionista for the month! Given that we've been pretty much obsessed with all things Korean lately (have you see our rundown of our favourite Korean skincare?), we decided that we'd get in touch with a Clozetter who seems to have her pulse on all things Korean.

Melissa Phang, otherwise known as melndrums here on Clozette, stood out to us with her Korean photo captions and quirky nail art. So we caught up with her to get the lowdown on her style inspiration, her love for all things Korean, and get the scoop on Korean fashion and beauty tips she's learned from her travels.

Can you describe your style?

I don't think I could categorize my style in a word; I think it varies depending on my mood and the occasion. I do like mixing and matching and I think I purchase just about any fashion piece so long as it fits me. So long as I think it looks good on me, I would wear it.

Would you say that you're highly influenced by Korean fashion & beauty trends?

Fashion wise, I am influenced by Korean fashion but not limited to it. I think certain trends in Korea are very fitting to my tastes and size. Trends in Korea also change very quickly and new items are constantly coming up, so the chase to get all the pretty items is never ending. One can never have too many clothes, and the speed that Korean retailers are updating their racks simply feeds on this mantra.

In terms of beauty, Korea is undoubtedly one of the countries with the most advanced technology in beauty. Just like their fashion trends, trends in the beauty scene are constantly changing, especially when the season changes. New products are constantly researched and developed. I think in recent years the beauty scene in Korea has seen some amazing innovations such as the BB cushion. Their products work for me, so I've been sticking with them.

We noticed that most of your photo captions are in Korean. What is it about Korean culture that got you interested in learning the language and eventually adopting a love for their fashion & beauty trends?

I started learning the language officially during my wait to enter into college. I had just came back from a holiday in Korea, and I thought it would be useful to pick the language up. My exposure and interest grew when I attended school in Korea; the food, the people, the culture is interesting and nice. I think, fortunately for me the Korean style suited me well, hence I got hooked on it

What’s your favourite Korean fashion trend and/or beauty product?

My current favorite Korean fashion trend at the moment is the clutch trend. As for my favorite beauty product --there's so many that it's so hard to choose! I think I would go with the IOPE Bio Essence Intensive Conditioning Treatment. No makeup would look good if the base is not good. I use it as a toner, right after I wash my face. It helps with the restoration of the skin, improvement of skin condition and more.

The weather is cooling down a bit (or as cool as it will ever get in out part of the world), do you have a particular go-to piece for this time of the year?

Unfortunately, Singapore is still too hot even in its cooler months, but I do hope it would cool down enough for me to at least wear out a sweater. On the colder days I like to pull out my knit tops to stay warm. I also have this floral bomber jacket I've been meaning to wear out.

Any fashion/beauty tip you’ve learned from your travels to Korea?

I've learnt many tips from all the Korean beauty programs; but here's one I heard from first from a friend --when washing your face; wet your face with warm water to open your pores. After foaming with soap, cleanse with cold water to close the pores. I practice this religiously! I also believe that Asians should use Asian products, because your skin is Asian and Asian products are made for Asian skin, so most of my beauty items are mostly from Korea. Besides, the choices in Korea are endless, so many products to test and try out till you find the product that makes it up your holy grail.
