Lately, there's a new beauty trend that's taking Instagram by storm. And no, it's not some weird, outlandish makeup look or daring experimental skincare. It's the — drumroll please — colour yellow. From masks to eyeshadow shades, the colour yellow is stealing the spotlight right now. Are you already curious about how you can join the beauty world in this latest craze? Keep reading to know the 411.

Turmeric masks

The jury is still out on whether turmeric masks are really effective for the improvement of acne-prone and oily skin. Some say that the herb is not as effective as others claim it to be. On the other hand, there are first-hand accounts of the efficacy of turmeric masks. Even Miranda Kerr is in love with it! She uses the Turmeric Brightening and Exfoliating Mask by Kora Organics. Would you want to try it to see if it's worth the hype?

Yellow blush

For years, we've stuck to only a few blush shades. But now, we've got a new option. Using the colour yellow as a blush may seem too bold in theory but when applied properly it can work like a glow booster for the skin. How to apply it the right way, you ask? Just like any other blush, apply it with an angled or simple blush brush. Start by sucking in your cheeks so you can clearly see your cheekbones. Then, sweep the product lightly along the top of your cheekbones. If you want more intensity, you can build it up slowly. It's important to be very careful and particular with the application as blending this bright shade can be a challenge.

Yellow highlight

Wanna glow like the sun? There's the yellow highlighter for that. Since Fenty Beauty released the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Trophy Wife, beauty lovers have been experimenting on how to use this gleaming shade. The best bet seems to be a combination of using it in as an eyeshadow on the lids, on the top of your cheekbones, and a little bit on your chin to create that overall dewy, glowing effect.

Yellow mascara

Once upon a time, we all thought that using black mascara was the only way to showcase our eyelashes. Well, not anymore. Various beauty brands are now coming up with new choices and expanding their mascara selections. Now there's violet, electric blue, hot pink and other bold colours. But it looks like the crowd favourite is the gold-yellow hue. Its glittering texture makes eyelash strands stand out, highlighting our peepers even more than a thick coat of black goo.

Yellow eyeshadow

Yellow eyeshadow has a reputation for being too hard to work with. However, that's not exactly true. Yes, a yellow smudge will be immediately noticeable but the colour itself is not that difficult to pull off. In fact, because many of us have yellow undertones, using a yellow shade on our lids will complement our complexion. Trust us, it's won't look as bizarre as one think it would. We recommended that you buy a single shadow rather than a full palette so you can try it out first. Marigold, mustard and buttermilk shades are great gateway shades to ease into the trend.

When browsing through our favourite fashion e-commerce sites, it's inevitable that something will catch our eye. And we're not just talking about the fabulous clothes. Sometimes, it's the model's beauty looks that make us do a double-take. Unlike the grand runway makeup trends — make no mistake we love them, too! — these ladies wear a much more achievable look that's fit for everyday life. In other words, they're way more practical than overdrawn eyeliners or lids sprinkled with glitters. Plus, they're also easy enough to copy. Here's how to do it.

Look 1: No-makeup makeup from POMELO

Front bow tie floral blouse (, SGD44/~USD32.21; Mamonde Flower Pop Blusher in No.2 Rosy, SGD24/~USD17.54; LANEIGE Tin Tint Lip Balm, SGD26/~USD19; Hourglass Vanish Flash Highlighting Stick in Champagne Flash, SGD66/~USD48.23

We all love that subtle uplifting aura that a well done no-makeup makeup look gives. The key to mastering this classic beauty trend is to work with only a few products. For the eyes, use only two to four shades. Apply shimmer eyeshadow on your lid to highlight your lids then choose a darker shadow for the crease to define your eyes. Next, pick a lip tint or a tinted balm for a hint of colour on your lips. Finally, finish the look with a swipe of glowy highlighter, preferably one with a creamy texture for a dewy effect.

Look 2: Minimal sultry makeup from Society A

Angie Ann Pink glitter top (, SGD159/~USD116.20; Sulwhasoo Eyebrow Perfector, SGD26/~USD19; Make Up For Ever Artist Lip Blush in Blooming Red, MYR93; Lunasol Coloring Sheer Cheeks in Light pink, SGD39/~USD28.50

There's a way to create a bold, sultry look without going over the top. To create this, you have to make your lips the main focus and keep the blush and eyeshadow minimal. Pick a bright colour for your lips like cherry red or vibrant orange. Make sure to keep your brows defined to achieve that nice, polished look.

Look 3: Warm-toned look from ZALORA

LYCKA Chiffon Boat Neck Off Shoulder Short Sleeve Blouse (, SGD48.90/~USD35.74; 3INA Matte Eyeliner, SGD23/~USD16.81, Clarins Water Lip Stain in Orange Water, SGD36/~USD26.31; Urban Decay Naked Petite Heat, SGD48/~USD35.08

Get that fresh coral makeup look by exploring different warm-toned products. For the eyes, play three shades and put on the deepest orange or brick shade on the outer v and lower lashline. Add a cat-eye or a classic eyeliner to draw attention to your eyeshadow look. As for the lips, opt for a lightweight lip stain or tint to retain that youthful vibe.

Look 4: Soft beige makeup from POMELO

ASOS DESIGN Petite 90s crop top in retro stripe with lettuce edges (; Chantecaille Sirena Bronzer, SGD131/~USD96.05; NARS x Erdem blush in Loves Me Not, Price unavailable; Etude House Matte Chic Lip Lacquer in Peach Beige, SGD19.90/~USD14.59; BY TERRY Nude-Expert Duo Stick, SGD78/~USD56.97

This chic, soft makeup look concentrates on two things: great base and highlight. First, pick a foundation that will give you medium to full coverage and camouflage imperfections. If necessary, use concealer to cover up blemishes and red spots. Next, take a two-toned bronzer and swipe some colour lightly on your cheekbones (do that fish face if you want) and on your temples. After setting the bronzer, don't forget to add blush on your cheekbones. For eyes, take the same bronzer and apply the darker shade all over your lids and crease, then the lighter shade on your brow bone. Finish the look with a peachy-beige matte lipstick. You can also add some faux freckles if you want to make it more interesting.

Look 5: Bare and bold from Nasty Gal

Hexagon With the Wind Hoop Earrings (, USD4; Fenty Beauty Flyliner Longwear liquid eyeliner, SGD30/~USD22; Dolce & Gabbana Italian Zest Healthy Glow Stick in Bronze, SGD55/~USD40.33; Clarins Joli Rouge Velvet Lipstick in Grenadine, SGD40/~USD29.33

Want to sport a throwback beauty trend? Try this bold look that's reminiscent of the glamorous 1960s. Although it looks elaborate, this makeup style is actually very achievable. To recreate that thick, cat eye you'll need a long-wearing, water-resistant eyeliner with a gel-like consistency to avoid fading or makeup transfer. Apply eyeliner on your upper lashline, then draw a parallel arched line on your lid. Fill the gap between the lines carefully. Next, apply a cream stick bronzer-highlighter on your cheekbones. For lips, pucker up with a deep MLBB shade.
