The start of the week's a mixed bag! There's Ariana Grande expressing distaste for Tiktok impersonations of her. But it's not all turmoil in the celebrity world, there are also some awesome updates that will put you in a good mood. IU is set to collaborate with BTS' Suga and Super Junior will be making a comeback on SJ Returns. Elsewhere, amidst left and right cancellations of launches, Yohji Yamamoto's bridge luxury brand Ground Y releases a manga-inspired capsule collection. IU collaborates with BTS' Suga in her upcoming single
Surprise, surprise! This 6 May, IU will release her comeback single and — get this — it's in collaboration with BTS' Suga. We can just imagine how groovy the single would be considering they're two talents with amazing vocals. EDAM Entertainment also mentioned that the music video has been filmed and is ready to launch alongside the track. The upcoming song is said to be in a different style from IU's previous hits, according to a report by Soompi. We can't wait to see what's in store for us.
Ariana Grande calls out her impersonators
It's not the first time Ariana Grande expresses her distaste for impersonations of her, particularly those that copy Cat Valentine, the super sweet and bubbly character she played on Nickelodeon's Victorious. It seems like many people assumed Cat Valentine's airy laugh and high-pitched voice is how Grande is in real life and it irks her. She recently reposted Jordan Firstman's parody videos criticising unoriginal Tiktok clips recreating iconic movie scenes and echoed the sentiment that impersonations are "degrading". What do you think? Are these Tiktok videos innocent fun or too much?
Super Junior scheduled to launch another season of SJ Returns
Here's something for the loyal E.L.F. fandom! Super Junior is scheduled to come back for another season of SJ Returns just in time for the boyband's 15th anniversary. The new season is slated to go live on 18 May at 11AM (HKT) via V Live and Naver TV. The show previously highlighted the process behind Super Junior's awaited comeback following a long hiatus and went on to document the members' comedic escapades.
Yohji Yamamoto's Ground Y releases a manga-inspired collection
Amidst various launch postponements from brands, Ground Y stands out by launching their latest manga-inspired collection. This time, the androgynous brand showcases Devilman, a popular manga created by the controversial Kiyoshi Nagai who is also known by his penname, Go Nagai. The capsule collection includes tees and hoodies all with dark and supernatural themes. You can check out the collection at the Yohji Yamamoto web store.
Charles & Keith x Cecilie Bahnsen
Charles & Keith just announced an upcoming collaboration with Danish designer Cecilie Bahnsen. The collection, which will be launched in May, will feature four styles: three Mary Jane designs and a mule. These classic shoe styles will be reinterpreted by Cecilie and given a touch of whimsical charm that her designs are known for. The whole collection's theme is inspired by school uniforms. “I’ve always been fascinated by school uniforms. I think that explains why I loved the Mary Jane shoe in the Charles & Keith collection so much. It’s a traditional school-girlish shoe, but it also has that quality of a masculine-feminine contrast that I’m always looking for," Bahnsen said.
This collaboration with Charles & Keith draws inspiration from Cecilie's previous couture collections, specifically patterns and colours in her Fall/Winter 2019 show. It also revisits unique fabric types used by Cecilie such as the recycled satin with a beautiful hand-drawn quilted embroidery and a unique patchwork made from scraps.
