This trend also became an avenue for women of colour to celebrate their cultural heritage.
Maria Sharapova announces retirement
Russian tennis superstar Maria Sharapova quietly announced her retirement from the game this week. In an article written for Vogue and Vanity Fair Sharapova shares, “My body had become a distraction.” The years she dedicated to the sport had taken a toll physically. In her retirement, she looks forward to spending time with her family and enjoying the freedom outside of her previous training routine. She is one of the 10 women to have won tennis’s four Grand Slam titles, the first of which she won at the age of 17.
