JANE MAKEUP - Thailand

(Beauty Bound Asia Winner)

You won Beauty Bound Asia! Congrats! How has this changed your life so far? What are you most looking forward to?

Before this competition, I was a small beauty creator in Thailand. I do my videos in Thai and sometimes in English as well, because I want to share and inspire a people not only in Thailand but also throughout the world. After winning Beauty Bound Asia, and becoming “Asia’s Next Top Beauty Creator,” I feel like my community has expanded, and that it is not just only in Thailand anymore, but also now the rest of Asia. I am hoping and [believing] it will spread around the world!

What’s your top tip for budding creators out there who are hesitant to start their YouTube channel?

I just did a video about "ten tips in order to become beauty creator." You should go and check it out! I will just pick one tip from the ten that I shared in my video. One of the most important things I think is to be yourself. Be real to your viewers. They will know whether you lie to them or not. The one thing that I feel makes a beauty creator special and different from a celebrity is that celebrities are part of marketing campaigns and receive payment to represent a brand; but we as influencers will share our own feelings and have to be real to our audience. I think we are more relatable in that sense.

What was the Beauty Bound Asia experience like? Was it everything you expected it would be?

It was a great experience and to be honest, it was way more than what I expected it to be. I never expected to make such amazing friends along the way and meet so many people who are so passionate about their work.

What’s your favourite Beauty Bound Asia memory that you’ll always cherish as you continue in your journey as a Beauty Creator?

My favourite Beauty Bound Asia memory would have to be the time when I was talking to Michelle Phan during the after-party and I had the privilege of learning so much from the conversation that we had. She complimented me on my videos and I have been holding on to that until today! She is definitely an inspiration and I am so beyond blessed to have met her during the trip!

What was the Beauty Bound Asia experience like? Was it everything you expected it would be?

The experience was like a roller coaster ride! Throughout the competition, every round had [a] challenge video [we had] to submit. I always hoped [I could clear] the round so that I [could reach to the top] and globally represent Singapore & myself. It had a lot of learning experiences that helped me to feed my creative soul.

What was the Beauty Bound Asia experience like? Was it everything you expected it would be?

It's everything I expected and so much more. It was surreal and may I say, every beauty creator's fantasy. The Beauty Bound Asia experience taught me a lot about myself, the world and the endless opportunities and possibilities, as long as you dream and give your best towards achieving that dream.

MAYJUNE TAN - Malaysia

What was the Beauty Bound Asia experience like? Was it everything you expected it would be?

The competition made me recall the days back when I joined a star search reality show, the Star Idol Malaysia 2007 (Star Idol is an acting based competition organised by ntv7 which MayJune won). Everything was so new to me and the progress was full of experiments. I did vlogging style at the earlier stage for the online challenge and then I thought I should focus more on makeup skills at the finals, but also regretted that I should [have done more] acting for creativity marks. The trip to Tokyo was [also] amazing for me. [It was] full of excitements and surprises, though the schedule was very packed. However, I am really glad to know all the finalists from different countries and also the bright people who worked for Beauty Bound Asia. They are all awesome and passionate dreamers who work hard for the goals!

What’s your favorite Beauty Bound Asia memory that you’ll always cherish as you continue in your journey as a Beauty Creator?

The visit to the Meiji Shrine [and the] Harajuku Shopping experience were the best times. I found that those were the times we really talked to each other and [got to know] everybody, especially when we had lunch together. Some stories behind the finalists being YouTubers are quite encouraging. I've learnt that I am not alone at all. At times, I felt that I am only alone because my friends back in Malaysia are still in the traditional media (TV & Radio). It's time to make a change.

I share knowledge from my experience in broadcasting, including makeup, hairstyles, beauty tips, nail art, and sometimes maybe some singing as well! I basically share everything I love! New videos are up every Thursday! Three words to describe my channel? That would be: Natural, lovingly-fun, and practical.

JAZZY TAN - Singapore

What was the Beauty Bound Asia experience like? Was it everything you expected it would be?

It is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience which at the subscriber count I have, is a big thing! We don't usually have such YouTube events in Singapore so I was so ecstatic to be involved in Beauty Bound Asia! Pretty much, it is a competition and I expect all the finalists to want to win so there is a slight tinge of competitiveness; but I had such an eye-opening trip to Tokyo, having learnt some new things about Japanese culture - makeup style, fashion sense and behavioural patterns. Even though I did not win, I still came back with a ton of inspiration, video ideas, and clearer painting of how the industry is like.

What’s your favorite Beauty Bound Asia memory that you’ll always cherish as you continue in your journey as a Beauty Creator?

I will cherish the fact that my audience has been all-so-supportive and how they have risen to spare me 'thumbs ups' and encouraging comments in my videos when they saw I entered Beauty Bound Asia! The connection and interaction I have with my audience is so priceless and I feel like this 'performance stage' of mine would not be present if not for them. I am so grateful and will strive to make even more captivating videos my audience like...and apparently they really love my story time videos!
