The Innisfree Green Tea Balancing skincare line saved my skin
During my teenage years, I suffered from major bouts of acne. Admittedly, although it was not as bad compared to what others have gone through, I still felt bad whenever there was a fresh pimple rearing its ugly head on my adolescent skin. It affected my self-confidence and consequently affected the way I socialised with my peers. I became self-conscious whenever I raised my hand in class or when my picture was being taken.
This photo was taken recently.
Thankfully, as I grew out of my early teenage years and into my early adulthood, my skin problem began to abate. But just like how old habits die hard, I still clung to my trusted acne-prone skincare routine. The reason why I still used the same products is because of my fear that if I stopped using them, my old acne-riddled skin will return. I knew that this was not true and yet and I still continued using my old, outdated skincare that does not suit the current condition of my skin.
It did not take long for me to see the effects of prolonged use of acne medication and harsh toners. My skin began to flake and lose elasticity. You know the test where you pinch your skin and when it does not bounce back it means your skin is dehydrated? I tried it and oh golly, mine was definitely dehydrated — no doubt about it. So I tried numerous moisturisers but they never felt right; they were either too thick, too oily or too watery that I didn't feel like putting it on would make a difference until I found the Innisfree Green Tea Balancing line. There were a lot of rave and good reviews, so why not try it?
I was amazed. In just one week of using Innisfree Green Tea Cleansing Foam, Green Tea Balancing Skin (Toner), and Green Tea Balancing Lotion, my skin became visibly supple and radiant. I'm very pleased to say that I didn't experience breakouts while using it. From here on, it became my basic skincare staple. From time to time, I still add a few serums into my skincare routine depending on what my skin needs at the moment but the Innisfree Green Tea Balancing line is my skincare foundation.
Now let's dive into the details.
Green Tea Cleansing Foam
This has a strong herbal scent. I personally love the minty hint in its herbal smell. But if you're very sensitive to herbal scents then this may be a deal breaker for you. The product comes in a 150ml squeeze tube. It's perfect for getting just the right amount of product. It's portable enough to carry during your travel.
All you need is a pea-sized amount and it's good enough to cover the entire face. Its creamy consistency will transform into a mild foam. I tried to wash with this product only (no makeup remover) and it got rid of most of my makeup except for the eyeliner and mascara. After using, it leaves your skin feeling fresh but not tight.
Green Tea Balancing Skin (Toner)
Unlike the cleansing foam, the toner is a bit toned down in terms of fragrance. It's in a recyclable, plastic bottle (200ml). You just pour the toner into your hands and dab on your face gently. In my opinion, the packaging could be better. My problem with this is I often accidentally pour more product than what I intended. My suggestion would be to use a pump instead of pouring straight from the bottle.
The consistency is light and definitely feels refreshing on damp skin. Unlike Western toners, this one serves as a pre-moisturiser. It serves as a bridge from your cleansing routine to your main skincare routine. It preps the skin really well for your next step.
Green Tea Balancing Lotion
Same as the Green Tea Balancing Skin, this has a light herbal scent. It also comes in a plastic bottle packaging (160ml). Same as the Green Tea Balancing Skin packaging, I think it would be best if the packaging would have a pump or come in a squeeze tube.
I use this lotion as the finishing touch to my skincare routine. Between the skin and the lotion, I use serums depending on what my skin needs. In a way, this lotion seals my skincare routine. I love its lightweight yet very moisturising formula. It's the perfect balance between creamy and watery.
The important thing to keep in mind when it comes to skincare is to listen to what your skin needs. As we are constantly growing and changing, our skincare should, too.
