These Are The Best Places To Escape To During The Holidays | Clozette

Not all roads less travelled are in the jungles or isolated spots. You can also find them in quaint towns or even in understated cities with rich histories. As they say, there's still so much to see in the world and the coming holiday season is the perfect opportunity to explore places you've never been to before. From Gothic destinations to ancient cities, these are the less popular tourist destinations that should be on your radar.

Bucharest & Transylvania, Romania

Home to major Gothic and Byzantine architecture still standing today, Romania has much to offer daring travellers with a penchant for history. In the country's capital, you can witness the grandeur of Old Town and peek into the former centre of commerce and political seat of the country's monarchs dating back to the 15th century. Another tourist spot that you shouldn't miss is the Palace of Parliament built by former dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, which happens to be the second biggest administrative building in the world. North of the capital, you can also visit Bran's Castle or more popularly known as Dracula's Castle in Transylvania if you love spooky destinations.

Bagan, Myanmar

Hidden for a long time from the rest of the world, Bagan is now welcoming visitors who want to see the beauty of this ancient city. The splendid sea of temples and pagodas is truly a sight to behold. Wait for either the sunrise or sunset where the sun spotlights the magnificent landscape in all its glory. Take the time to visit a few temples and taste the local delicacies for a holistic experience.

Prague, Czech Republic

Much of Prague's charm lies in its historical buildings, pretty lanes and lively street entertainments. Visiting the capital of Czech Republic is a delightful, picturesque experience that will allow you to take a good glimpse at Europe's history. A major tourist attraction is the Prague Castle, which houses other popular sites like the Powder Tower, Old Royal Palace, St. George's Basilica and the Golden Lane. It's one of the biggest palaces in Europe so you have to set aside some time to completely explore the place.

Nepal

More than the treks in the Himalayas, Nepal is famous as a place for spiritual awakening. Whether you're seeking enlightenment or not, you should still visit Nepal and discover another culture. Visit the Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you can see the old royal palace of the former Kathmandu Kingdom. Outside the capital, go on a short trek to the Everest Base Camp and take a look at the peak of Mount Everest.

Bordeaux, France

After Paris, make your way south to the countryside in Bordeaux. In contrast to the cosmopolitan capital, Bordeaux's beauty is in its provincial charm and cultural heritage. Visit the Cathédrale Saint-André, Grand Théâtre and Place de la Bourse, all of which are fine examples of classical French architecture. Another highlight in Bordeaux are the wineries where wine lovers can delight in one-of-a-kind wine tastings. Don't miss going to the La Cité du Vin, one of the most revered wine museums. You can also catch some exhibitions happening there from time to time.

"The holiday season beckons and calls for a new bag to tote around for the festivities. The TESS bag from Chloé’s Festive Collection 2018 comes in a shiny, gorgeous sepia brown to welcome the warmth of the end-of-year celebrations. I love that it comes with two straps of varying lengths so you can wear it like a handbag or sling it over your shoulders for versatility and practicality."

"I'm gearing up for the festivities by making sure my holiday look is on point. This season, I'm all about the lips. And I'm thrilled to have learned about Lipstick Queen's Method in the Madness range. The tubes have swirls of two colours that combine to make one hue on your lips. The best part? No two swipes are alike! I'm eyeing the Reckless Red shade to complement the holidays' hues."

"I don't own a lot of bags because I'm satisfied with having just a handful for varying occasions and uses. That's why it takes something versatile that ticks functionality, style, and of course, 'personality' and 'oomph' factor to catch my attention — and this Hampstead bucket bag from Mulberry fits the bill. Aside from its sleek design and structure that can go well with day-to-night looks and both formal and casual situations, I like how the straps can be customised depending on my mood for the day. It also comes in classic colours like black and white, fun shades like red, teal and pink, and even prints if you're feeling adventurous. P.S. With it being a bucket bag, I don't have to worry about running out of space when throwing in my essentials for the day."

"It's no secret that I love wearing colourful ensembles but when it comes to eyeshadow looks, I prefer to take the minimalist approach. My foolproof formula for achieving an easy, polished eye makeup? Apply glitter on the lid and matte shade at the top. But for the holidays, I want to try using more colours like rose gold and coral hues. That's why Etude House's Tiny Twinkle Color Eyes in #01 Rose Gold caught my fancy. It has a balanced combination of mattes and shimmers, contouring and highlight shades. I'm ready to sparkle!"
