Meet the Sand & Sky Australian Pink Clay Deep Pore Cleanser. It promises to hold the same pore-refining and exfoliating qualities of the well-loved Sand & Sky Clay Mask, but in a gentle pH-balanced formula that you can use daily.
#TeamClozette campaign manager Xuanyi Low put its pore-tightening powers to the test on her combination-oily skin. Read on for her honest review.

First impressions, claims, and packaging
"I have heard lots of good reviews about the clay mask so I’m super excited to try the cleanser," Xuanyi shared. "Prior to trying it, I hoped the cleanser would detox and invigorate my skin like how the clay face mask does to others!" As a self-confessed newbie to clay-based and AHA-powered products, Xuanyi was intrigued by the Sand & Sky Australian Pink Clay Deep Pore Cleanser's promises to tackle all of her skin woes which include enlarged pores, uneven skin tone, and dark spots.
The cleanser boasts of a pH 5.5 (the standard when it comes to pH-balanced skincare) and a mineral-rich gel that refines, cleanses, decongests, and hydrates the skin. These effects are all due to the gently exfoliating Australian pink clay, AHAs from the Australian finger lime, luffa plant beads, macadamia oil, and plant-based squalane in its formula. It ticks all of the boxes that Xuanyi looks for in her cleansers. "I like cleansers that are hydrating and refreshing, easy to lather and does not leave my skin feeling too dry or tight after washing off." She also prefers cleansers that can remove her makeup without having to double-cleanse. All of that goodness comes in a handy pink tube with a flip-cap that she described as "convenient" to use. Sounds great so far!
Use and application
Upon squeezing some of the product into her hand, Xuanyi was surprised by its unique appearance. "It has a gel-like texture, and is coral in colour with a rather strong earthy scent that’s also a little citrus-y." The scent may make you feel leery but Xuanyi says it's "not too overwhelming" and can be "quite pleasant" after getting used to it.
Another pleasant surprise was the presence of gentle micro-exfoliating beads that add some manual exfoliation to the product's performance. "These are widely dispersed, so it doesn’t feel harsh on the skin at all. It was relaxing and refreshing." In fact, it added to the clean and smooth feeling post-cleansing.
While using a clay-based cleanser may sound drying for your skin, the Sand & Sky Australian Pink Clay Deep Pore Cleanser does the exact opposite. "I tried using it in the morning and night and it leaves my skin feeling clean," Xuanyi said. "It doesn’t dry out my skin at all despite using it twice a day."
If you still prefer to be cautious with your skin like Xuanyi, she recommends using the exfoliating cleanser in the evening. "It really helps completely remove my makeup," she explained. There are some perks to using it in the morning too. Xuanyi said her skin was less oily underneath makeup after using the cleanser in her morning skincare routine.
All in all, Xuanyi noticed that her skin was smoother and more radiant after using the product for two weeks. She likened the experience to a deep, luxurious cleansing facial in the comfort of her home. She can see herself purchasing the product as a feel-good, self-care treat despite its price point of ~USD32.10.
