Self-Portrait Swim Brings City Chic To The Coast

Modern feminine staples for the beach

British contemporary fashion label Self-Portrait has been quite a popular brand among the celebrity set since its incarnation in 2013. The brainchild of Malaysian designer Han Chong, it features his modern feminine guipure lace dresses, which have become a prominent feature on red carpets. With clients such as Michelle Obama, Miranda Kerr, and the Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex favouring his designs, it can be said that Han Chong really knows how to dress a woman. His ethos: clothes that make women look good and feel even better.

Which is why it’s no surprise that when he launched Self-Portrait’s swimwear collection recently in Langkawi, an island off the coast of his hometown in Penang, Malaysia, it garnered plenty of fanfare and approval. Type in the hashtag #sunseaSP on Instagram and you will see pictures of Han Chong’s friends and influencers clad in his new designs, basking in the sand and surf, set against the backdrop of a tropical Malaysian beach. Part of Self-Portrait’s allure is its accessibility: the clothes are elegant, reasonably priced, and they’re designed to flatter women of all types.

The new swimwear edit is no exception with its fluid silhouettes, playful florals, graphic prints, and beautiful shades of pastel and terracotta. The idea is that the clothes are stylish and versatile enough to be worn on the beach and in the city. Among the lineup of swimwear staples are gorgeous chiffon and satin dresses with ruched details and draping that are arguably event-appropriate. Underneath it all is the same energy of contemporary femininity, which has staunchly become the brand’s DNA.
