Celebrate Hallyu Queen Song Hye-Kyo’s Best K-Drama Fashion Moments

Slay all the way

After two years since the airing of her last K-drama Encounter, which she starred in with Park Bo Gum, Song Hye-Kyo is rumoured to return to the small screen real soon. The hallyu queen is said to be in talks to play a cold-hearted fashion designer named Ha Young Eun for the upcoming drama I’m Breaking Up Now. While reports claim that Song Hye-Kyo previously declined the role, it seems the producers were able to make her reconsider.

Nothing’s set in stone yet, but we can’t help but be excited for the slightest possibility of SHK’s comeback. That’s why we’re celebrating in advance by creating a list of some of Song Hye-Kyo’s best K-drama fashion moments as a way of claiming her new rumoured role. Read on!

This ‘trends from the 2000s’ look from Full House

Despite the bold and colourful nature of her outfit choices, Song Hye-Kyo’s Han Ji-Eun pulls them off by always following a colour story for every outfit. Be it a combination of oranges and yellows or pinks and blues, there’s always a sense of harmony in her chosen colour palette. But out of her many interesting numbers, our favourite is this ‘trends from the 2000s’ look that mixes a knit bolero with a polka-dotted spaghetti strap top and an asymmetrical denim skirt. There seems to be a lot going on with this look, but overall, style queen Song Hye-Kyo nails it. That, and maybe because we all know we tried to pull off the same look way back when.

Her neutrals for winter combo from That Winter, The Wind Blows

If you’re looking for a winter lookbook inspiration (when we're ready to travel again, of course), Song Hye-Kyo’s entire wardrobe for this drama fits the bill. While she wore many standout outfit combinations in the series, this classic look that matches a beige trench coat with black mufflers, stockings, and pumps for a very sleek yet effortless-looking vibe is our pick. The way she matched it with hooped pearl earrings also adds a level of elegance to the otherwise muted look.

These ‘staples ensemble’ from Descendants of the Sun

Dressing up like Dr. Kang from DotS is very easy since her outfits are usually comprised of summer staples. But if we were to pick our favourite out of all of her looks from this must-watch drama, it would be the one where she wears a distressed black-and-white plaid button-down over a textured off-white shirt tucked over simple denim shorts. Not only is it easy-to-cop and undeniably cohesive even for casual wear, but it’s also what she wore in one of the most iconic moments — and stills — from the drama. Remember that romantic scene between her character and Song Joong Ki’s ‘Big Boss’ Captain Yoo?

Her traffic-stopping red dress from Encounter

The short bob, the red lipstick, the dress — everything about this look from Song Hye-Kyo’s 2018 K-drama Encounter exudes elegance and perfection. It’s no wonder why Park Bo-Gum’s character Kim Jin-Hyeok couldn’t help but take photos of her from a distance. In contrast to her neutral wardrobe throughout the rest of the series, the bold colour of the dress also symbolises the one night she experienced freedom from her otherwise constrained life, making it a fashion moment that’s both metaphorically and literally worthy of attention.
