We Tried 4 Popular Time-Saving Beauty Hacks, Here's What Happened

Look pretty in a jiffy

There is no shortage of time-saving beauty hacks on the internet. They range from practical ones (using a dry shampoo instead of washing your hair) to some really wacky ones (fork contouring, anyone?). At some point, we wondered which of those are really worth doing. Out of all the hacks out there, we decided to try four popular tricks to see if they can really work. Keep reading to see the results.

Beauty Hack # 1: Highlighter for eyeshadow

There's a speculation within the beauty community that highlighters are just eyeshadows in a different packaging. And it's probably why this particular hack was born. The concept is simple; you just use highlighters as single-colour eyeshadow to give your eyes a bit of glimmer and pop if you're strapped for time. I'm glad to say that it actually works! However, if you have oily skin, you may see noticeable crease lines starting to form after a few hours. So this one's probably best for drier skin types.

Beauty Hack # 2: Refresh with a hydrating face mist instead of retouching makeup

We can all agree that retouching your makeup is a gruelling task, especially if you have a hectic schedule. Beauty gurus would often advise using hydrating face mists instead of going through your makeup routine once again. Herbivore's Rose Hibiscus is one of those mists that does the job. It refreshes and hydrates skin while making sure that makeup stays fresh and in place. Spritz as needed!

Beauty Hack # 3: Brow powder for shaped arches and contoured cheeks

One of the biggest challenges in finding the perfect contour product is getting a cool-toned shade that won't look ashy upon application. But here's a secret: you don't have to look further than your own brow kit. Using this Maybelline Fashion Brow Kit, which has a wax and two powder products in its pans, you're not just guaranteed with good arches with its great colour payoff and performance, you'll also get the perfect contour shade that mimics the natural planes and shadows on your face.

The small pan also helps in controlling how much product goes into your brush, so you don't have to worry about over-shading upon first application. The Elf Eyebrow Kit also serves as a great option as a double-purpose product.  My favourite thing about this hack is the eyebrow kits are slim and easy to carry compared to a contour palette, especially when I travel.

Beauty Hack # 4: Lipstick for flushed cheeks and a pretty pout

No time to do a full-faced look but still need a hack to look fresh and prepped? We say grab your lipstick and go. A quick dab on your cheeks and lips with a trusty product like Etude House's Mini Two Match Lipstick is perfect for someone who wants a made-up look while still considering time, effort, and convenience.

What I love about this product from the K-beauty brand is it doesn't feel sticky whenever I use it as a blush and I can even mix and match the colours depending on my mood or the type of flush or the pout I'm going for. One product, a variety of looks, less hassle!

You can also unclasp the two ends and use them individually or buy another shade and use the magnet connector in the middle for another dual-ended combo. That, on top of the cute packaging, makes this a winner in my book. Using these two dual-purpose products, I was able to create this look in less than 10 minutes.
