Unboxing: My Clarins Skincare Range | Clozette

It’s no secret that like our bodies, our skin needs a balanced diet to be healthy and, therefore, radiant. That’s why we’re always on the lookout for skincare products that would give us the nourishment we need. We want something that’s effective yet gentle. To help us with that, earlier this year, French beauty brand Clarins introduced My Clarins, a fun and vibrant vegan skincare line. Containing Healthy Skin [In & Out] Complex, a plant-based ingredient blend, the My Clarins skincare range has the clean products you need for our beauty routines. First off, there’s their Re-move Purifying Cleansing Gel whose lightweight lather gently strips off impurities from the skin. Follow it through with the Re-boost Refreshing Hydrating Cream to boosts the skin’s moisture. Amp up that hydration at night with the soothing Re-fresh Relaxing Sleeping Mask. Lastly, try out their Clear-out Targets Imperfections, a treatment gel that dries up blemishes and imperfections while calming irritations. The My Clarins skincare range balances and enhances all skin types, so you’ll get luminous and plump skin no matter your need.

To this day, there's no single magic formula for glowing, healthy skin. Each of us has a unique complexion with varying needs and reaction to different ingredients. But even so, it still helps to share which skincare products work best based on tests and experience. In a world full of options, it's one of the best ways to identify the products that are worth a try.

At #TeamClozette, we're comprised of ladies with different skin types, tones and textures. Through the years, we've been trying out so many skincare products and surprisingly had some similar favourites despite our differences. Ahead, our holy-grail skincare picks for Clozette Beauty Heroes 2019.

A clean slate

Clozette Beauty Heroes 2019 Best Cleansers

When it comes to cleansing, a balancing act is what you want. A good cleanser is one that can get rid of all the makeup and gunk from the day but won't strip your skin of its natural moisture. For micellar water, our collective favourite is Bioderma's Sensibio H2O. It can wipe your face clean in just a few swipes and has a light formula that leaves the skin refreshed. As for foaming cleansers, we love Senka Perfect Whip and Neutrogena Deep Clean® Facial Cleanser, which are both great for removing dead skin cells. For those of us with sensitive skin, the best bets are Kiehl's Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash and Fresh Soy Face Cleanser.

Hydrating heroes

Clozette Beauty Heroes 2019 Best Moisturisers

Moisturisers have been a source of controversy for the past year. One of our feature writers even tried banishing it from her skincare routine for a week just to see what difference it would make. But this year, this beloved skincare item is back on everyone's vanity. Our favourites include the dual-purpose AHC Eye Cream For Face which, as the name suggests, can serve both as an eye and face cream; the lightweight Laneige Water Bank Gel Cream; the rejuvenating Origins Ginzing Energy-Boosting Gel Moisturiser; the ultra-moisturising Rose Deep Hydration Face Cream; and the fast-acting Clinique Moisture Surge Hydrating Supercharged Concentrate.

Sun shields

Long gone are the days when putting on sunscreen is considered a hassle. With these lightweight formulas, making it a habit is easy and breezy! There's La Roche Posay Anthelios Comfort Lotion XL (perfect for sensitive skin), Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Milk SPF50+ (lightweight and moisturising), Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF40 (can double as a makeup primer and gives a 'glowy effect'), Shiseido Clear Stick UV Protector WetForce SPF 50+ (great for sporty gals and beach days; becomes more effective when it comes into contact with water or sweat) and Kiehl's Super Fluid UV Mineral Defense Titanium Dioxide Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF50+ (gives a smooth finish; best pick for oily and acne-prone skin).

Power-packed treatments

Clozette Beauty Heroes 2019 Best Skin Treatments

Even the most diligent skincare enthusiast can still experience some 'down days' when your skin just needs a little pick-me-up to get back its bounce. For this, we love Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Serum (for reviving damaged skin), Glamglow Youth Mud (for smoothening out skin texture), Pixi Glow Tonic (for brightening dull skin and removal of whiteheads), Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair (for achieving plump skin) and COSRX Acne Pimple Master Pad (to aid acne healing).

Clozette Beauty Heroes is a curation of #TeamClozette’s top beauty picks based on testing and experience. We’re happy to have been able to try out many products in the past year, and we’re excited to share our favourites.

Honey in skincare? That's right! We're not talking about just the usual honey you see in the supermarket, but what we're referring to is the magnificent Manuka Honey. In the past few years, it's been getting a lot of attention for its antibacterial properties. But just recently, it's also becoming more popular in the field of skincare.

Made by bees that pollinate in native manuka bush in Australia and New Zealand, this sweet liquid has so much more to offer than just sweetening our tea. It contains a high concentration of Methylglyoxal (MG), a unique organic compound with anti-bacterial quality and restorative properties, which turns out to be really great for achieving a healthy complexion. Ahead, the skin benefits of using Manuka Honey and tips on how you can incorporate it into your current skincare routine.

What does it do to your skin?

There's a reason why Manuka Honey is considered a superstar skincare ingredient. First, it helps heal acne because of its anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties that help dry zits. It has also a pH level that ranges from 3.2 – 4.5, which helps prevent the growth and formation of various bacteria that usually cause acne.

Second, it aids in skin repair. Once the acne is already gone, you can still keep using Manuka Honey to help the epidermis to recover from the damage. Third, it retains and absorbs moisture, giving your skin a more plump and glowing look. Finally, it's also a great anti-ageing agent as it inhibits a group of enzymes known as MMP that destroys collagen.

How to use Manuka Honey in skincare?

First things first: Just a friendly reminder to always perform a patch skin test when trying out a new skincare product. We all have different skin types, therefore we'll all have different reactions, too. It's always recommended to apply the product on your jawline or the skin under the ear. If there's no reaction, then you can continue using it for the rest of your face.

Now back to our topic, here are some of our favourite skincare techniques for using Manuka Honey.

USE IT AS A MASK. In a small glass bowl, you can combine Greek yoghurt, Manuka Honey, tea tree essential oil and turmeric powder. Apply it as a usual cream mask, then leave on for at least 20 minutes before rinsing.

SPOT TREATMENT. Not a fan of masks? Apply an ample amount of Manuka Honey directly to the portion of your skin with an existing pimple. Leave it for the rest of the night.

AS CLEANSER. Combine a few drops of hot water and Manuka Honey together to create a DIY cleanser. Or if you want to go the extra mile, you can skip the hot water and apply the honey directly to your face. Gently lather and massage the mixture on your face for a few minutes. Rinse it off after.

When buying Manuka Honey, always check the label. The manufacturers use a grading system set up by the UMF Association in New Zealand called UMF (Unique Manuka Factor). Manuka honey that's graded "12+ or 16+" guarantees the purity and concentration of beneficial components. The higher the rating, the better quality you get!
