Unboxing: Shu Uemura Matte Supreme Lipsticks | Clozette

Taking inspiration from ink as a tool for self-expression for over 5,000 years — from handwriting to calligraphy to creative art — Shu Uemura created the Matte Supreme Lipsticks. Introducing the range as the modern woman's way to carve out her signature into the world through her lip colour choice, this gives the phrase 'seal it with a kiss' a whole new meaning.

The 15 gorgeous matte shades coupled with a weightless and comfortable formula and intense pigment is just the beginning for this line. It also comes with a unique, ergonomic applicator reminiscent of an artist's pen that embraces the curve of the lips in perfect detail.

Curious as to how you'll achieve the perfect #LipSignature with the Matte Supreme? Check out our unboxing and swatches above.

Lather, shampoo, condition, rinse and dry off. Washing our hair is second nature, but are you sure you’re doing it the right way? It’s the small things that count to get the most out of your hair routine. From your pre-wash ritual to the point of towel-drying, we share six steps to follow for flawless tresses.

Pre-wash brushing

Stimulate circulation on your scalp with a hairbrush massage. Apply pressure on points to alleviate stress and promote hair growth. Detangle your hair from the tips to the roots to reduce knots. This step is important to avoid tugging wet hair as you shower.

Lukewarm rinse

Before you set your shower to the highest setting, heed our warning. Hot water will dry your hair out. Instead, opt for lukewarm water to loosen gunk on your scalp and open hair cuticles. Run your fingers through your hair and scalp to wash the sebum and dirt as they may hinder your products from working. Skipping this may clog the scalp and lead to dandruff and poor hair growth.

Long hair? Condition first.

Conditioning requires some leave-on time to fully moisturise the hair, so consider doing this first especially if you have long hair to save time while you work in the shampoo. Remember to always condition from mid-length to the ends, never from the roots. We want soft hair, not oily scalp.

Shampoo scalp only

Shampoo works like a cleanser, but for the scalp. Just like our face, the head has pores that allow hair to grow and absorb nutrients. Over time, it becomes clogged from pollutants and poor hair care, so focus your product on the roots. Take a coin-sized amount of shampoo and lather all over your head. Take this opportunity to lightly massage your scalp from the base of your head to the top with vertical strokes. This cleanses build-up against the grain and promotes circulation. But remember to avoid intense scrubbing as it will only tangle your hair.

Cold final rinse

Rinse off with cold water, please. The cool temperature will seal those cuticles along with the nutrients from your hair products. This isn’t ideal on a cold morning but trust us on this, your hair will thank you.

Pat dry, not rub

We're sure you’re itching to hurry and get ready but don’t go for your heating tools just yet. Take the extra time to towel-dry your hair with something that can easily absorb water but won't damage your hair like a microfiber towel or an old shirt. Be sure to pat and squeeze gently and not rub. You want to avoid tangling and breaking your hair off. And always remember to use a heat protectant before styling to reduce damage.
