This year’s Met Gala theme is ‘American Fashion’
After its postponement last year due to the pandemic, the Met Gala is back this year for a two-part celebration. The theme? In America: A Lexicon of Fashion for part one and In America: An Anthology of Fashion for part two. The event is said to champion American designers, as well as shed light on socio-political events that occurred during the pandemic. Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, and Naomi Osaka have been named co-chairs for the event.
Despite the hype for the prestigious event’s comeback, however, netizens were quick to criticise and make memes about the theme. This is because people were quite unsure about how to interpret American Fashion, unlike previous years’ themes (Camp, Heavenly Bodies, etc.). We’ll just have to see how it turns out on 13 September.
