Viktor & Rolf Meme Couture Totally Gets Us

Say it with fashion

By now, it's already a given that couture fashion week is a goldmine for top-notch viral content. From gravity-defying designs to outrageous silhouettes, designers never fail to serve us the most eccentric looks we've ever seen. However, this year's Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture is a little bit tame and focused on the more artistic, sophisticated side. The only exception would be the statement pieces from avant-garde luxury fashion house Viktor & Rolf. And by statement pieces, we mean literally.

Gone are days of slogan tees; in 2019, we're all about statement gowns. To everyone's delight, designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren sent 18 very meme-able (and meme-inspired) couture gowns down the runway. Each creation speaks for itself with snarky remarks plastered on candy-coloured, voluminous tulle. Here are some of our favourites.

This one is a very versatile gown that will suit every occasion that you don't really want to attend but feel obligated to do so.

Do you have that friend who always requests for travel souvenirs and refuses to accept cheap keychains and printed tees? Well if you ever go to Amsterdam, this dress is the perfect fancy pick for your equally fancy friend.

Wanna refresh your office wardrobe? Consider getting this no-nonsense piece to avoid any miscommunication when it comes to how you really feel about your workload.

With its sassiness and flair, we bet that this gown will be your new go-to outfit. It's great as an everyday look, especially on the days when you're feeling some extra rage.

We've yet to see a gown that speaks to our soul as much as this one does. Whether you're going to a casual or formal party, this bold piece can work on so many levels.

Naturally, the internet also weighed in on these slogan gowns. There's even a guide for which gown fits you best according to your zodiac sign.

However, not all reactions are in favour of the collection. Some criticised that a particular design closely resembles a rug made by punk subculture brand Sourpuss Clothing. As of now, the jury is still out if it's just a coincidence or blatant copying.

It's not the first time that the designer duo created a look that resonated with not just the fashion community but ordinary netizens as well. Viktor & Rolf made headlines with their iconic Fall 2015 collection where they framed fabric art in broken picture frames to create unique pieces that are truly avant-garde. But that's not even the best part.

At the end of the first model's catwalk, it was revealed that the frames were not broken after all. They were just hinged together, and with a few adjustments, the dresses turned into art pieces that you can hang on the wall. The idea is nothing short of ingenious.

With all these sensational designs, we're already looking forward to the next avant-garde masterpiece slash viral hit that these two will create.
