Review: Will This Eye Shadow Trio Give You Luminous-Looking Lids?

The answer to creating an elevated neutral eye look?

Celebrity makeup artist Gucci Westman has painted the faces of Hollywood’s most beloved celebs from Gigi Hadid to Jennifer Aniston, hence I was excited to try out the Westman Atelier Eye Pods in Les Jours, an eye shadow trio she created for her luxury clean beauty brand. Did it give me luminous-looking lids? How was the colour pay off? Find out in my review below.

First impressions, claims and packaging

Sleek, chic and stackable. These were the first words that popped into my head when I unboxed the product for the very first time. Compared to the regular rectangular-shaped palettes that we’re used to seeing from makeup brands, these Eye Pods are housed in magnetic individual pots that snap together easily for easy portability.

The Westman Atelier Eye Pods in Les Jours include three shades to help you create a luminous eye look: Neige to highlight the lids, Chocolat as a base or liner and Tabac for a pop of colour. It has a cream-powder formula, so it felt smooth instead of flaky or dry when I swatched it onto the back of my hands. Turns out, it’s formulated with rice starch and coconut oil, which help to create a “fluffy” sensation and provide blendability respectively.

Usage and application

To create a soft neutral eye makeup look, I started by sweeping Chocolat, a deep brown shade, across my lids. I used an eyeshadow brush at first but decided to switch to using my fingertips as I didn’t mind the casual, smudged effect. Next, I applied Tabac, an orange-gold shade from the inner corner to the middle of my eyelids. The shade Neige looked intimidating to me at first as it’s a stark white colour. However, when I applied it below my brow bone to brighten my eye area, the shimmers looked really subtle and flattering.

In all, the colours complemented one another beautifully and they are incredibly easy to wear for a variety of occasions. The colour payoff is pretty decent too and it’s just right if you prefer to go with a softer effect. However, for bolder, intense makeup looks, you’ll need to apply a few more layers of the product or wear them wet. Consider creating a cut crease too if you wish to define the orange and brown hues even further.

I’ve worn this a few times now, and I observed that the eyeshadow begins to crease after around five hours or so. Do keep in mind though, that I applied the product on its own without an eyeshadow primer or a makeup setting spray. It might be wiser to incorporate these additional steps to make the eyeshadow last much longer on the lids.

Final thoughts

Eye makeup look created with Westman Atelier Eye Pods in Les Jours

Portable, pigmented and versatile. The Westman Atelier Eye Pods in 'Les Jours' are great for those who wish to pamper themselves with a luxe eyeshadow palette.

In conclusion, I found the Westman Atelier Eye Pods in Les Jours to be really thoughtfully designed. The eyeshadow colours are incredibly versatile and their velvety, buildable formula makes them suitable for different types of makeup lovers — from budding makeup enthusiasts to professionals. The formula is also vegan and it contains no synthetic fragrances, silicones and parabens, so conscious beauty lovers are able to enjoy these luxury pods too.

That said, I do find its price point to be slightly high. Retailing at USD98, these would be great for those who love to splurge on all things beauty or wish to pamper themselves during special occasions. Looking to add this to cart? It’s available via Net-A-Porter.com.
