Your Checklist For The Ultimate #HomeSpaGoals | Clozette

When was the last time you gave yourself time to unwind? With our busily packed lives, we often forget that setting aside time for self-care should be a priority. And no, you don’t need to spend a fortune on going out to pamper yourself. You can do so in the comfort of your own home, with just a few accessories and tweaks to your routine. Check out our checklist for the ultimate home spa experience.

Set the mood with a scented candle

Luxurious spas evoke a relaxing feeling through the sight and smell of flickering candles, so let’s create this same experience at home. Choose a scent that relaxes you and that signals to you that the work day is over.

Hang eucalyptus on your shower head

The scent of eucalyptus is invigorating. It calms your mind while also energising your senses. Hang a branch of eucalyptus on your shower head and let the steam of the hot water release its scent. Plus, did you know that eucalyptus also has antibacterial properties? Your skin will feel extra clean after your shower.

Exfoliate with a loofah

Treat it like getting the stress off your skin. Choose the type of scrub that works best for you — a body scrub in a jar works well while a loofah or a dry brush is also good for a more thorough exfoliation — for a brighter complexion. It works like a massage for your skin, too.

Lather like no other

Indulge in a bath gel that you can use for more than just cleansing and that elevates your bathing experience every single time. Neutrogena Rainbath Shower & Bath Gel is great for cleansing, softening and conditioning the skin.

Aside from skin-saving properties, Neutrogena Rainbath comes in different variants infused with different scents to give you the feeling of a luxurious spa experience in your own home. Pear & Green Tea helps take away your stress by creating an image of peaceful greeneries with every whiff. Gold Lush has a spicy fruit scent that makes you feel relaxed and refreshed. Ocean Mist lets you conjure up images of days by the beach and hearing the sound of waves.

You can also use the Neutrogena Rainbath Shower & Bath Gels as a shaving cream alternative — but with an added perk of smooth freshness! If you have a bathtub, lather up a bubble bath for an opulent me-time.

Match it with music

Make your at-home spa experience a multi-sensorial one with the help of music. Set the mood and chill out to tunes that evoke calmness and serenity. Of course, that could mean different things to different people, so pick your go-to playlist, whether it be cheery pop songs or soothing classical tunes.

Feed your mind

What better way to escape the stressors of real life than diving into a fictional one? There’s just something about turning the pages that an e-book cannot replace. If you’re not the type to pick up a book of fiction, bust out your non-fiction or self-help faves. Take this opportunity to not only relax but also feed your mind with new knowledge.

It's the midweek! How are you holding up? We're feeling quite swell, especially after learning about these new tidbits of info from the worlds of fashion and beauty.

MAC x Aaliyah

The MAC x Aaliyah collection has expanded. Keep your eyes peeled for a new lipstick, lip glass and bronzing powder, whose shades are inspired by the late singer.

Rose Inc.

Model and actress Rose Huntington-Whiteley has just launched Rose Inc., a website that will focus on beauty from an insider's perspective. Huntington-Whiteley will share not just personal tips but also features about the movers and shakers in beauty.

Balenciaga boost

Balenciaga is reportedly Kering Group's fastest growing label. Its popularity amongst the younger crowd has afforded the brand financial leaps. But it's not all roses because they have recently been embroiled in a controversy. While it's not something too serious, fans were appalled to learn that the brand sells what appears to be a shirt sewn over another shirt for USD1,290.

Stuart Weitzman exit

Last week, we caught wind of the news that Stuart Weitzman creative director Giovanni Morelli has resigned. The reason for his exit was not indicated then but many have surmised that it was due to sexual assault allegations made about him. The brand's vice president for product development and production of footwear, Thomas Gibb, has filed a lawsuit against Morelli.

We've heard good things about Pixi Beauty's Glow Tonic. It's supposedly a mega holy grail for everyone dealing with hyperpigmentation and skin dullness. With all the praises for this product, our curiosity was piqued. We decided to buy a 100ml bottle (PHP990/~USD25.26) so I can try it and see the results for ourselves. Just to recap: I have combination skin but since it's summer right now, I'm leaning more towards the oily type. Keep on reading to find out if the famed Pixi Glow Tonic is worthy of its cult following.

Formulation, claims and usage

With 5% glycolic acid in its formula, the Pixi Glow Tonic can be considered as one of the gentlest AHA products in the market. If you're someone who wants to try incorporating AHA into their beauty routine, then this product is the perfect choice because its gentle formulation will help your skin acclimate to chemical exfoliation. It claims to give the skin a brighter and smoother complexion while nourishing it through aloe vera, ginseng and botanical extracts.

My skincare routine for the summer

Just to give you some context, I've been using the Pixi Glow Tonic for over three weeks now as a toner every other day. First, I wash my face with Nivea Caring Whip facial wash. Then, I proceed to apply Pixi Glow Tonic with a cotton pad all over my face and neck. On days that I don't use it, I opt for the COSRX One Pimple Clear Pad which has 1% BHA. Afterwards, I use the COSRX Galactomyces 95 Whitening Power Essence. In the morning, I always use a sunblock since AHA beauty products can make your skin more photosensitive.

Packaging, size and scent

The packaging of this product is simple yet functional. It stores the product well, dispensing of the liquid is also hassle-free, and it's lightweight enough for travel. As for the size, a 100ml bottle can last you up to five to six weeks if you use it every other day. Moving on to the scent, the product smells like baby powder. It's mild so even those who are averse to scents will find this, at the least, tolerable.

Is it worthy of its cult following?

What's the verdict? My answer is yes, definitely yes! Although it didn't help much with speeding up the fading of my dark spots due to premenstrual pimples, it did help in reducing overall acne activity. I can also feel that my skin is smoother because makeup application is better. Usually, I get some dry patches on my cheeks but now, makeup glides really well. Plus, it also brightened up my skin a little bit.

Left: before; Right: after  (Not much improvement on hyperpigmentation, but skin texture improved)

It's not the first time that we reviewed an AHA product on Hype Hound; the first one would be COSRX's AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid. To compare, COSRX's formula has 7% glycolic acid and is more of an essence than a toner. While it's higher in glycolic acid concentration, it's only meant to be used two to three times a week. So it's more power-packed and you can definitely see a visible difference after one night. On the other hand, Pixi Glow Tonic has more of a "slowly but surely" approach and can take days or weeks for you to see results. In the end, both deliver a great performance so it all boils down to your preference for scent, pricing and other considerations. The choice is yours.
