a relatively new 6-month old Japanese restaurant @teppankappoukenji already has sizable customer base built largely through the impressed japanese connoisseurs’ word of mouth in their social circles.
why? @teppankappoukenji is an izakaya, teppanyaki & omakase all-in-one restaurant with counter seats & private rooms in causal yet intimate setting. enjoy omakase for lunch or dinner aside from the reasonably priced menus (regular, set (lunch) & seasonal). Chef Kenji sourced his ingredients directly from Japan to keep quality high & costs low.
my Omakase Dinner (8 - 9 course at $150) features delightful dishes from the seasonal (summer) menu, chef’s creations & dishes from the regular menu. cold & hot appetizer, sashimi platter, creative small bites, japanese stew, fish dish, claypot donabe & dessert are namely what i had. the cold appetizer of sea urchin in edamame cream & aburi spanish mackerel in the sashimi platter certainly excite my 5 senses instantly. not long after, a tray of creative small bites gave me many surprises. eg: a long greenish roll is actually sasazushi, a sushi wrapped in bamboo leaves for extra fragrant. the prawn & ikura presented in a saké cup because the accompanying sauce is heavily spiked with saké.
another dish to look out is their sweet fish steak, ala carte at $18 from the seasonal menu. a whole ayu sweet fish butterflied to sandwich shiso leaves & secret sauce, sizzled on a blazing hot teppan to get the juicy inner crispy outer combination. Donabe, a Japanese claypot rice packed with flavors & of course, drool worthy ingredients such as sea urchin, truffles, onsen egg & hot-off-the teppan A5 Miyazaki wagyu is a showstopper.
the omakase is also available for lunch at [$50 / $80 (half / full portion] aside from the $12 - $35 express lunch menu. you are recommended to make your reservation because the it is usually packed during the meal hours.
