Everything We Know About ‘Euphoria’ Season 2 — So Far

Will there be more glitter with the drama?

The question on everyone's minds right now is when is Euphoria Season 2 coming out? The 2019 show trended online for its gritty portrayal of love, hate, identity, sexuality, and more among high school students. The unconventional makeup looks took the spotlight as well.

We're curious to see how Rue (Zendaya Coleman) and Jules (Hunter Schafer) will deal with the aftermath of their "breakup"? Will Nate's (Jacob Elordi) complex antagonistic character ever be explained? We spill the beans on the show's release date, cast updates, and share plot speculations below.

We’re meeting new cast members

A new season means new characters and boy, are we in for a ride. Joining the cast are Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights and Titans), Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr. (Black Mafia Family) and singer-songwriter Dominic Fike. How their characters will play in the current dynamic between the original cast — comprised of Zendaya (who won an Emmy for her role), Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie (Maddy Perez), Jacob Elordi, and Barbie Ferreira (Katherine Hernandez) — hasn't been confirmed.

Rue's not dead

While the first season ended on a rather sad note for Rue — Rue and Jules had a tearful final scene and Rue was shown having a relapse after being sober for three months, leading to speculations about her death — we can definitely say that Rue is coming back in Euphoria Season 2.

For one thing, Zendaya shared a teaser video back in June that shows Rue smiling at Jules in the middle of a crowded East Highland High School hallway. HBO also released a special episode that follows Rue in the aftermath of the first season.

Less glitter and fewer rhinestones ahead

Just ICYDK, each character has their signature makeup look that involves glitter and/or rhinestones that symbolise their character arc or their current emotional state. But if you're already a fan of the show's bold experimental makeup looks, we’re sorry to say that there may not be as much glitter and many rhinestones in the second season.

However, Euphoria's head makeup artist Doniella Davy has shared that the makeup will be more refined. According to an interview with Allure, Doniella said that they're switching out neon eye makeup in favour of more muted shades; rhinestones will be put into temporary retirement, and chunky glitter tears will be replaced by finely milled shimmer shadows.

With how the show ended on a cliffhanger for a lot of characters, we can only speculate how their looks will change in the coming season. But oh, do we wish that we’ll still see some of Maddy’s rhinestone makeup here and there. We’re keeping our fingers crossed in the meantime.

We might hear of its official release date soon

So when is Euphoria Season 2 coming out? Well, we do know that the first season took eight months to film. We also know that the show began filming its new season earlier this year. Fast forward to seven months later, we finally have a tentative date announcement for Euphoria’s comeback season. Drum roll, please — it's most likely to arrive in late 2021. The official date will be announced in September, so keep an eye on this space for updates.

Now that you know some of the confirmed and rumoured details about Euphoria season 2, will you be hopping on a TV marathon of its debut season? You can catch it on HBO Go and HBO Max in Southeast Asia.
